Chembra Peak is the headline, Wayanad's highest point, famous for the heart-shaped lake on its trekking trail. Permits are limited and issued by the forest department, so arrange them a day in advance (we do this for our guests). Start by 7 AM; the views below the first ridge are worth the climb even if you turn back at the lake.

For drama without the trek, the 900 Kandi glass bridge near Vaduvanchal hangs you over the forest canopy. Go early before the queues, especially on weekends.

Afternoon: waterfalls

Soochipara (Sentinel Rock) Falls is the area's most powerful cascade, a three-tier drop reached by a short forest walk. Kanthanpara Falls nearby is smaller, quieter and better for families with young children. In monsoon both roar; in dry season the pools at Kanthanpara are gentler and swimmable.

Evening: tea country

The Rippon and Meppadi estates have been growing tea since the British era, and the estate roads make for the best golden-hour walks in Wayanad, rolling green corridors with mist threading through the bushes. Stop at a local stall for chai and bonda, and you've had the most Kerala evening possible.
